The Naxos Music Library is now available for Jersey Library members!
With an unparalleled collection of classical music content, advance search facility and an accompanying easy to navigate app, Naxos Music Library (NML) is a pleasure to use.
Jersey Library card holders now have access to over 130,000 CDs containing more than 2 million tracks. Hundreds of new CDs are added each month, not only classical music, but also jazz, blues, and folk. Members can choose between listening to individual tracks, or to a whole CD. High quality streaming (128 kbps), should satisfy all but the pickiest audiophile.
In addition to the extensive collection of music, NML also contains more than 10,000 composer and artist biographies, CD liner notes, a pronunciation guide, as well as other educational resources. Users can create playlists of their favourite tracks, which will be stored for subsequent listening.
The NML app can be downloaded onto Apple or Android phones and tablets. The app is simple to navigate allowing library card holders to search for music and stream it immediately, or to create playlists to be listened to at a later time.
This new online resource provided by Jersey Library, allows members to indulge their curiosity about classical music to an almost unlimited extent. Just as recordings by household names like Placido Domingo, Katherine Jenkins and the Berlin Philharmonic are available, NML also enables music enthusiasts to explore the full range of musical history, from Gregorian plainchant to the latest experimental compositions.
Highlights of the new additions for March/April 2018, include a new recording of Sergey Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Martin Alsop. Based on Shakespeare’s most famous romantic play, Prokofiev’s realisation of Romeo and Juliet as a full-length narrative ballet was audacious in its day. It was written during a period of artistic turmoil under a Soviet regime in which arguments raged over such fundamental aspects as the choice between a happy or a tragic ending. Famous movements such as the Dance of the Knights have helped maintain Romeo and Juliet as Prokofiev’s best-loved stage work. Marin Alsop’s acclaimed cycle of Prokofiev’s Symphonies has been described as ‘an outstanding achievement’ by BBC Music Magazine.
Also recently added to the collection is Classical FM’s Alan Titchmarsh’s The Glorious Garden: In Poetry and Song. Listeners can enjoy the renowned gardener read his poems, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra performing specially written pieces inspired by Alan’s verse.
