Exhibition & Film “At the heart of May 68”

Jersey Arts Centre

Event Overview

AT THE HEART OF MAY 68

Paris. May 1968. Student protests and massive general strikes spread and immobilize the whole country. Sometimes violent, complex and idealistic, these events have shaped French society for decades afterwards. To mark the 50th anniversary, Alliance Française de Jersey presents an original exhibition of photographs by photoreporter Philippe Gras. From Sorbonne University to street barricades, this exhibition offers an insight into a major event of French contemporary history.

Preview Tuesday 29th May 5.30pm-7pm, Berni Gallery, Jersey Arts Centre

Preview followed by the screening of a documentary, “May 68, a Strange Spring”

With testimonies of key players who lived those events (police, political world, students), this film redraws Mai 68’s chronology and analyses its impact on French society. Screening in French with English subtitles, at 7pm (Maria Ritchie Room).
