Broad Street on Sea, glimpses of the south side of the street and its hinterland: Talk by Stuart Fell
Jersey Library
Event Overview
Although the history of the south side of Broad Street over the last 250 years can be seen in its building facades, little is visible of the substantial area of backland property that extends as far as Commercial Street. Until the early 19th century many of these properties had direct access to the shore, but this changed with the construction of a new sea wall, and the development of The Esplanade and Commercial Street. This talk looks at the evidence for the sort of buildings that once stood in this area, as well as a few that survive, and speculates on what the future might hold.
