Wentworth Woodhouse, Britain’s Largest Stately Home, by Marcus Binney CBE
Jersey Museum and Art Gallery
Event Overview
No great country house in Britain has had such a tumultuous post-war history as Wentworth Woodhouse in Yorkshire, swallowed up by open cast mining intended to make it impossible to live in. Marcus Binney tells the story of a 45 year-long battle to restore decaying monuments and follies in the park and the magnificent and beautiful baroque and Palladian mansion. Breathing life into vast abandoned wings, palatial state-rooms and stable courtyards - bringing visitors to admire an architectural treasure few have ever seen.
